Elsie McLeod Memorial

Youth Bursary

On June 13, 1987, the QUONTA Drama Region passed a motion establishing a youth bursary in memory, and in honour of Elsie McLeod.  Elsie was a much loved and respected driving force behind the founding and furtherance of the QUONTA Drama Region, and she was a woman who dedicated her life to the betterment of young people in all walks of life.

The awarding of this bursary is in no way intended to be part of the annual QUONTA Region Drama Festival competition.  As it happens, expediency and a sense of occasion suggest that the recipient of the bursary be announced each year in conjunction with the QUONTA Region Drama Festival.

The current QUONTA Region Drama Festival Adjudicator will choose the recipient of the bursary, and a runner-up, annually.

Each member group of QUONTA in good standing is eligible to nominate one member annually, regardless of whether said group is, or is not participating in the current Festival.

The nominee must meet current Theatre Ontario criteria for eligibility to attend a Theatre Ontario Summer Course.

A bursary will provide the tuition portion of a Theatre Ontario Youth Summer Course for the successful recipient.  The course is to be attended the year the bursary is awarded.  The bursary will be paid directly to Theatre Ontario on behalf of the bursary recipient.   Consideration will be given for assistance to help defray travel costs.  Increases in costs of the course will be met.  Any additional costs are to be met at the discretion of the QUONTA Drama Region.

If the recipient is unable to accept the bursary, it shall then be offered to the runner-up.   Beyond this, any exceptional circumstances shall be attended to at the discretion of the QUONTA Drama Region.

The successful candidate will submit a written report, in person, if possible, at the September QUONTA Drama Region Executive meeting.
